Oh man, there is so much wild shit going on in my life right now
and I can't tell you about any of it yet
People. Friends. Future Saints. Between 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024 and the stroke of midnight when June 8th turned into June 9th, I experienced some of the wildest roller-coaster shit that has ever gone on in my life.
Chaos is my zone of excellence. When things are in wild flux, I tend to find my best opportunities, and 2024 has been all about wild flux for me. Some very horrible and crushing things happened, followed immediately (IMMEDIATELY) by maybe the best thing ever, and then I got the most killer idea about how to navigate the near future of my career, and I’m extremely excited about it because there’s a real opportunity there for me to break out in a way that nobody saw coming. I am eagerly looking forward to announcing the very good thing that happened right on the heels of the very bad thing(s), but I have taken a sober oath of total secrecy until my new partner in this endeavor is able to make the necessary announcements on their end.
After all this wild re-arrangement of the shape of reality, I went and saw a live show by my friend H and his two partners. H is one of the loveliest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting—in fact, his entire circle of acquaintances, business partners, and friends just overbrims with the very best of vibes. It was such a joy to sit in the sold-out Paramount Theater, the largest in Seattle, and feel all the love so many people have for H and what he and his friends have built together. It certainly inspired me. Despite being ridiculously talented and driven, H has experienced the same bullshit difficulties everyone in every creative field runs into (I’m no stranger to that), but rather than playing by the rules of a game that is rigged against him, he and his friends took the opportunities that evolving technology presented and turned their talents into a paradigm-busting, independent empire of creative freedom and undeniable success. Watching him up on stage, doing what he loves the most in front of a house that was packed to the top of its third mezzanine, made me dead certain that the chaotic break-out my new business partner and I are planning is most definitely the right move.
At 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024, I was in the lowest pit of despair about my prospects. Now, I’m excited about what my future holds. And I’m really, really excited about the shake-up my new partner and I are going to give to this industry.
Watch this space. News will be forthcoming when I can bring it out.
Meanwhile, here’s a collage by Charli Pierce, one of my all-time favorite collage artists. (Bonus: that red dragon thingy is a Blengen from Henry Darger’s art.)
